Heddy has a Reptile Day

We have had a run on Turtle rescues around here and as always Heddy has to be right in the middle of it all.  Our first short term guest was a newly hatched Painted Slider that luckily was discovered right before a large bunch of leaves was headed for the shredder. We were raking and noticed this small green disk. At first I was not even sure if it was alive but after a few hours rest in some water we released him into the boat slip all under the watchful eye of Miss Heddy.

   

As soon as I thought we were done with our turtles my son Wayne came home from work with a  Box Turtle that he Rescued from the middle of the road. Now PLEASE understand I do not approve of removing Box Turtles form their environment BUT this guy was in the middle of the Highway and needed to be removed we will take care of him for a while then release him into a Sate Park where he works. Again as usual Heddy was into helping while we built his cage. Notice that the Turtle does not appear as excited to meet Heddy as she was to meet him.

Heddy Gets a Tunnel

When my husband heard that one of the things Heddy was going to try to do at her first show was Earth Dog he was concerned that she might not be able to go through a 9” opening or that she would be afraid of it since she had never tried it before.

I personally think it was just an excuse to use power tools and build something new.

But for what ever the reason Heddy now has her very own practice Earth Dog Tunnel and to say the very least she LOVES it.

She supervised the building of it. Having never seen a drill before she thought her nose really belonged where ever you were trying to work .

 

But at last we were done and ready to see what she would do with it. We had built it in six foot sections for storage and ease of moving it around.

So I tossed a Liver treat into and Heddy never hesitated even a little she was after the liver and out looking for more.

After a few runs with the liver she diced this was great fun and likes to hide from us inside her tunnel. And not only can she fit easily inside the 9 inch opening but she often turn around inside and come out the same way she went in.

      

Now I guess we WILL wait to see what she thinks of a tunnel with a RAT at the other end. I do not need a PET RAT to take care of.

I hate that tail.  Funny that Mice do not bother me.

Oh well she can wait to met Mr. Rat in North Carolina!

How to Destroy Your Bed

I guess Heddy was totally bored at work this morning while I was attempting to get some Insurance claims posted I heard her digging. I am glad my camera was sitting on my desk next to me because I could not believe what she was up to.

She has decided to dig her way into her pillow. Now Abby our daughter’s Jack Russell has slept on this pillow for years when she is here at work. Now Heddy has been here for two months and the pillow is NO MORE.

      

 

 

OH How She Has GROWN!

Loch Cu Heddwyn has been with us for 6 weeks now and oh how time has FLOWN.

We picked up Heddy on January 1,2010and when we got home she weighed in at 4.2 lbs. 

 

 

Now on February 16th she weighs almost 9 lbs. Has outgrown her first coat  and is attempting to do all that I ask of her.

   

I know it is hard to believe but we have loved every moment she has been with us. In our minds she is the PERFECT PUPPY. 

4 MONTHS

And now she is 4 months. How did that happen. It amazes me how fast she is changing.

We checked in this morning on the Wii fit (yes I know crazy but she has her own little Wii fit puppy) and Heddy is 9 lbs. I knew she was in a growth spurt but I really did not expect that big of a jump.

Her big excitement for today was going out into my garden and grabbing a piece of bark Mulch. She managed to get it wedged into her upper pallet between her jaw and was unable to get it free. Of course she panicked and took off running around the yard yelping and digging at her face. We have and acre of back yard! Can you imagine how hard it is to grab a scared puppy running as fast as she can. I finally cornered her and managed to get my fingers into her mouth popped the wood out and got a small nip in the process. I know she did not mean to do it an no harm was done. As soon as I put her back down she was her old self and back to playing.

The trip

Oh dear where do I start? I have never done this before. never written a blog and certainly never attempted to raise a Border Terrier.
Well so that I do not forget one shall we say delightful yes that's the word , moment of her life I will attempt to write about it. It will take a few days to catch up as we have been together for 26 Days but I will give it a go.
After Our WONDERFUL Rottweiler and Standard Poodle died at the ripe old age of 12 and 13 and our daughter married and took her dog with her we decided to be dogless. well that lasted for two years. The we began to miss having a lap warmer and companion that loved you no matter how rotten the day was.
My husband has always loved the look of the Border Terrier so we started the investigation into getting a PUPPY. I started getting in touch with breeders in December thinking we would add a puppy in the spring or summer when the weather was nice and we returned from Hawaii. But Heddy had other ideas about that.
Betsy Bly wrote back and we started talking. after a few e-mails she casually told me she might have a puppy that I would be interested in. So we talked a while and even though it was JANUARY and the puppy was a Red Grizzle ( I had thought I wanted a Blue and Tan) when my husband saw the picture of Heddy he was in LOVE.

So on January 1, 2010 we left Delaware and drove to IN would have been about a 10 hour trip but we drove into a WINTER SNOW STORM we finally arrived around 10:00 PM. came in and met the family. Heddy's Mom and Dad knew just what to do they totally ignored me and devoured my husband my lap was empty and HE HAD TWO DOGS in his lap. Needless to say he was smitten with the breed.
Betsy then went and got Heddy she was adorable. so terrified at first she hid under a chest for a very few moments. then popped out sniffed us and ran back under. We brought her a couple of new toys. She claimed a stuffed Raccoon grabbed it and tore off to her bed to hide it. But she could not stand being ignored for long and kept coming back to see what we were.
With in a very short time she was climbing all over both of us needless to say any thought I had of wanting any other puppy than her were gone. We sadly said good night to her and Betsy and went to our Hotel for the night. the next day we got up very early and after stopping at Walmart for a blanket and Puppy Coat ( it was that COLD) back to Betsy's to picked up our precious cargo and were on our way.

NOW let the fun begin. how do you get a puppy to pee and poop on a leash in the snow that has NEVER been out before ?
Well we saw every road side rest between Indiana and Delaware and it took her 6 hours to Pee her new Dad finally cleared the snow from a patch of grass every time we stopped. What a man will do for love. We arrived home around Midnight all of us very tired but HAPPY.
